Day 90 to 91

Day 90 and we’re back on board, we decide to move on although we have the marina booked for another night. Headed back to St Neots a bit late but knew we could run for a couple of hours. Shared the second lock with two plastic cruisers which always makes J nervous. Moorings really busy, couldn’t get in on either of the moorings we used previously so moved back to Lammas field, only two boats there when we got there but there were many more later. We were moored with only the bow in, and that further out than we would normally do. Abortive attempt at mooring near park and final mooring both involved heroic jump to shore by J, the second one through a patch of nettles.

Day 91 and heading for Bedford. J spent a few months here whilst consulting and had stayed at “The Barns” hotel which is right on the river and J had spent a number of evenings sat by the river thinking “one day I’ll bring a boat past here”. Unfortunately their mooring is far too small for a 60ft narrowboat. On the way we passed Tempsford, which is a name our racing friends will recognise. Really noticed today that we haven’t seen any grebes for a long time, why aren’t they here? The other fish eating birds are around. Moored overnight in Priory marina, they let us in for free!
